Education and Communication
The new building provides new possibilities for museum work oriented towards the public. In this, the education and communication department, which under a new head has been restructured in the last few months, has a special role. Expanded workshops and seminar rooms in the old building, which will be ready in the spring, allow the Museum Folkwang a wide-ranging education program. With the aim of making the Museum Folkwang a center of lively discussion and exchange on art, culture and life, the program is directed especially towards children and families, teachers and pupils, youths and students. Parallel to this, an extensive program of guided tours and events await adult visitors.
In February and March, 2010, the various events are dedicated above all to the architecture of the new building and a new presentation of the collection. Children and adults can explore the new building in exhibition talks on Sundays or, equipped with an F-Box, a collection of materials with guide available at any time from the visitors information desk, they can set out on an expedition on the theme of color. Exhibition talks for pupils and training for teachers will familiarize them with the new exhibitions and aim for a long-term and lasting relationship with schools from the region and beyond. Meet the Artist is a double invitation to young people to work together with artists present at the exhibitions of the Photographic and Graphic Arts collections. The Speaking through Art project is the start of a joint communication and research project between the Museum Folkwang and the University of Essen.
As soon as the exhibition “The most beautiful museum in the world” – Museum Folkwang to 1933 (from 20 March, 2010) opens and the workrooms and seminar rooms are ready for use, the program will be expanded. Regular publications such as a quarterly program and the homepage will provide information of the education and communication program.
