Dear Sirs and Madams,

This is an invitation: Make a commitment to one of the major German museums.

Art and culture form one of the basics of life. They are under threat, however, as public funding is limited and existential questions of general welfare need to be dealt with first.

Under these conditions our Museum Folkwang too needs to continue to evolve dynamically, constantly expanding its collection and ensuring that it program in the areas of education and communication, exhibitions and research remain attractive.

This could be the time for you to become a donor: In endowing a work of art or even a collection and through donations, you support the expansion of the Museum Folkwang collection.

Endowing an already existing foundation does not lead to a participation of the endower in the foundation as such, as endowing always refers to a voluntary relinquishing of some assets for the benefit of a foundation as independent body. An endowment or a donation to the Stiftung für das Museum Folkwang is, however, something magnificent as it helps the foundation to preserve art and culture for the general public.

Reasons for endowing have always ranged from altruistic patronage to self-fulfillment: Those who affirm a social responsibility on the part of the well-off (“Property obliges. Its use should also serve the general welfare” says the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany) or those who wish to benefit the Museum Folkwang as experienced collector and endowers, we welcome everyone’s support.

The pleasure of giving is naturally the starting point. Those who wish to donate money or assets provide a benefit over time as they help us to reach our long-term donation targets. Those who wish to donate works of art help themselves and us to preserve them for posterity.

Donations and endowments to the Stiftung für das Museum Folkwang during your lifetime or posthumously bring with them tax relief for the donor (or his or her heirs) which exist - at this scale - only for foundations.

This is why you should endow or donate to our Stiftung für das Museum Folkwang – you’ll be surprised how happy it will make you, and us, feel!
