In 2004, for his exhibition Melancholic Beat, Afif commissioned song lyrics for the first time, which were created in dialogue with his artworks.

The four texts were written by the artist Lili Reynaud-Dewar and are performed by Ugnė Uma for this performance.

The performance Melancholic Beat, Live 2026 is a commission by the Museum Folkwang in Essen as part of the exhibition Saâdane Afif. Affiches / Plakate, which runs until 4 October 2026.
