Ansicht Lesesaal des Museum Folkwang

Visitors, academics, students and pupils have access to a holding of more than 50,000 works. This includes book, catalogues, journals and special publications on painting, sculpture and graphic arts, photography, posters and contemporary art. 

Please send an enquiry in advance by email to bibliothek@museum-folkwang.essen.de if you are interested in specific themes or artists from our collection.

Unfortunately, an online catalogue is currently not available for research purposes.
We ask for your understanding.

It is possible to view our books and catalogues after registration Tue–Fri between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

READING ROOM

The Museum library’s book holdings have been merged and are centrally accessible, directly from the entrance hall, in a bright reading and study room. This can also be used outside museum opening hours. It is also possible to view original graphic works and photographs.

MUSEUM FOLKWANG ARCHIVE

The Museum Folkwang Archive holds records relating to the origins and history of the collections of the Kunstmuseum Essen (up to 1921) and the Museum Folkwang (from 1922) from around 1900 to the present day. The records are available to academics and the general public for research purposes.

Records from the museum archive dating up to 1950 have been digitised and can now be viewed online in the database of the Haus der Essener Geschichte (City Archives):
