NEW WORLDS

DIALOGUE OF THE ARTS

29 rooms – 29 stories of new beginnings and rediscoveries, of similarities and contrasts, of humankind and art. The Museum Folkwang collection offers new insights into developments and connections within art history, with altering displays spanning different eras and media.

Recent acquisitions and rarely exhibited works engage in exciting dialogues with the collection’s masterpieces. Painting, photography, poster art, sculpture, prints and drawings, archaeology and world art encounter each other in the spirit of the Folkwang idea. Each room is named after a selected work and provides insights into the changes brought about by global developments. The connecting and universal aspects of the arts, and the relationship between humans and the world, lie at the heart of the collection rooms.

Starting with key works from the museum’s early history by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin as well as German Expressionism, and continuing through to the art of the decades after 1945 and up to the present day, the Folkwang cosmos is revealed from a contemporary viewpoint. This display encourages visitors to continually rediscover and experience the diversity of the collection in new ways.

The following special presentations can currently be seen at the centre of the NEW WORLDS parcours:
