NOW ONLINE: THE TRAILER FOR THE EXHIBITION ›WILLIAM KENTRIDGE. Listen to the Echo‹
William Kentridge (born 1955) is one of the most important voices in contemporary art worldwide. He combines history, politics and poetry in his films, drawings, sculptures and installations. With the exhibition Listen To The Echo, the Museum Folkwang is dedicating a comprehensive retrospective to William Kentridge.
Kentridge became known in the late 1980s for his animated short films, in which he takes a critical but also poetic look at the situation in South Africa. They are based on large-format charcoal drawings. These form the basis for William Kentridge's diverse oeuvre, which includes drawings, prints, sculptures and tapestries, as well as opera productions and multimedia stage plays. To mark his 70th birthday, the Museum Folkwang and the Kunstsammlungen Dresden are dedicating a joint exhibition project to him.
